Forensic nursing involves the integration of the healthcare system and the criminal justice system. Forensic nurses, apart from regular medical expertise, are trained in skills pertaining to the legal system, like injury identification, evaluation, and documentation.
They provide specialized care and facilities to victims of crimes like assault and trauma. After understanding the patient’s medical requirements, a forensic nurse provides complete mental support to them and thereafter collects evidence in consultation with legal authorities and, if required, provides medical testimony in court.
